Caption/Description
When the world began to rock with rumbles of war in 1939, plump-cheeked Paul Makushak locked himself into a black, windowless cubicle in the attic of his Brooklyn home. He remained there ten years until police, acting upon a neighbor's tip, released him from his self-imposed confinement. A few days later, he pleaded to go back to his darkened room.
