This six alarm fire took place Friday, February 13, 1948, at the L.A. Young Spring and Wire Company in Detroit. Damage was estimated at $75,000.

Mr. Cowherd had been up all night--'on the ground,' making pictures of the fire. He took off at dawn for this aerial shot. The picture, he said, needed an explanatory 'What is it?' set title.
